Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca expressed his concern at the fact that a large part of the taxi drivers in Chisinau work illegally. “The vehicles are not registered with the taxi companies. Thus, the turnover is reduced and not all the taxes are paid. Furthermore, the legal work conditions are not met. This applies to most of the companies. This is a phenomenon, not an obsession that appeared overnight. This activity in the municipality of Chisinau is not yet regulated by the municipal administration,” the mayor said in the April 17 meeting of City Hall officials, Info-Prim Neo reports. The head of the General Public Transport and Communications Division Adrian Boldurescu said that a number of meetings with taxi drivers were held at the Division, but no results were achieved. “The efforts made to gain control over this market failed, but we will soon suggest a number of solutions,” he stated. The taxi drivers work based on a license issued by the Licensing Chamber. Only this authority can withdraw the license or impose penalties.
