The municipality needs not only snowplows, but also equipment for spreading antiskid material. The equipment used now has been maximally adjusted for coping with the situation, said Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca. “The weather conditions are also a cause for such a state of affairs. If the temperatures hadn’t increased suddenly and ice hadn’t formed over snow, we wound’ have experienced these problems,” said the mayor. According to Dorin Chirtoaca, even so things stand better than the previous years. “The situation can be improved by making investments and purchasing the equipment needed to clean the snow from sidewalks. The sidewalks and yards of apartment buildings were cleared of snow less 4-5 years ago. We now do what we can, but this doesn’t mean that the projected result was achieved,” said the mayor. He stressed in this connection that the snow cleanup is not the responsibility of the municipality only. No snow removal taxes are levied in Moldova or elsewhere. Everywhere in the world, the managers are obliged to clear of snow the areas around their head offices.
