The president of the Liberal Party Dorin Chirtoacă said that if the citizens demand, he will consider the opportunity of running for a new term of mayor general of Chisinau municipality. In the talk show “Forth power” on N4 channel, he noted he intends to ask the people about this through the agency of the Internet and the press, IPN reports.
“I want to see the viewpoint of the citizen and will then take a decision. For me, this is not a question of running. It means return to work. I was removed from office by force and my goal now is not to win the elections, as earlier. If the citizens support my candidacy, I will consider such a possibility,” stated the Liberal leader.
Dorin Chitoacă noted he would run on behalf of the Liberal Party even if the Bloc ACUM also fields a candidate. “It is not about the party, but about the person. The Bloc ACUM or someone else should provide a person with weight who will have evidently better capacities than the other candidates, including myself if I run, so that they are worthy contenders and could solve more in Chisinau,” stated the politician.
“No matter who runs now, I don’t know if they could cope better than me with the problems faced in Chisinau.”
Dorin Chirtoacă held the mayoralty of Chisinau during three terms, since 2007 until 2018. He has been investigated in the pay parking lots case since May 2017. He is under judicial control and is charged with passive corruption and acceptance of undue gains. He pleads not guilty and says the case is political in character.
