Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca will continue to stay under house arrest. The Chisinau Appeals Court rejected the lawyer’s request to investigate him outside remand. “Dorin Chirtoaca is innocent, while the accusations made against him are unfounded,” lawyer Tatiana Iovu stated for the press, IPN reports.

Tatiana Iovu also said that the first court committed procedural violations when it passed its judgment. These violations inevitably led to the quashing of this decision. The prosecution presented no evidence that would have justified the house arrest.

Commenting on the absence of Dorin Chirtoaca from the hearing, the lawyer said it is his right not to come to court.

The mayor of Chisinau was arrested on May 25. One day later, he was officially charged with influence peddling in the case of pay parking lots and was placed under house arrest.
