The referendum is a first step towards regulating the relations between the President, Parliament and the Government and unlocking the constitutional crisis, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said after casting his vote on Sunday, Info-Prim Neo reports. “More amendments will be needed after the referendum so as to better regulate the relations between the state bodies. After the plebiscite, we will be able to constitute the legislature and executive. The Communists committed an abuse when they modified the Constitution in 2000 so that the head of state be elected by 61 votes in Parliament,” he said. “I think no party will poll more than 50% of the ballot in the near future and we will again have alliances or coalitions.” The Mayor of Chisinau, who is also the vice chairman of the Liberal Party, expressed his confidence that the voter turnout will be high and the referendum outcome will be validated.
