Dorin Chirtoaca wants the conflict between him and the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) to end so that there is peace. He made such a statement in the program “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.
“We must understand once and for all that the people elected us not to quarrel, but to cooperate for the Chisinau residents’ welfare. The voters chose the mayor and the CMC and we must comply with their decision,” said the mayor of Chisinau.
As to the bill concerning the status of Chisinau municipality, Dorin Chirtoaca said this is not aimed at strengthening his position to the detriment of the CMC, as it is alleged. “I will not be a mayor forever. There are discrepancies between the powers of the mayor of Chisinau municipality and of the mayors of other communities. The other mayors can hire and fire the inferiors, while the mayor of Chisinau cannot. This shortcoming should be removed,” he stated.
Dorin Chirtoaca denied the accusations that he named a number of his relatives to key posts at the Chisinau City Hall. “During eight years, I have employed no relative at the Chisinau City Hall. As regards Igor Gamretski, this was named head of the Public Transport and Communications Division not because he was my classmate, but because he started to work for the Liberal Party in 2007. I personally informed that we were classmates so as to prevent speculations,” he stated.
Dorin Chirtoaca also said that the current government is making considerable effort to restore the people’s confidence in the state institutions and the external partners’ confidence.
