Dorin Chirtoaca: I gave a demonstration and shouldn’t be fined

Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said he knows about the ban on using jamming equipment and in the June 17 meeting of City Hall officials gave a simple demonstration to show how it works. He considers that his act shouldn’t be penalized, IPN reports.

Dorin Chirtoaca called a news conference where he spoke about the ICT Ministry’s warning that the use of jamming devices is illegal. “The new political objective is probably to ‘jam’ Chirtoaca,” he stated.

According to the mayor, the Ministry of Education at the beginning of this year asked for authorization for using such devices in the Baccalaureate exams, but was refused to for the reason that the use of jamming equipment is illegal. “Everything the authorities had to do was to notify the European Commission that their use is necessary for securing the exams,” said Dorin Chirtoaca.

In the June 17 meeting of Chisinau City Hall officials, Dorin Chirtoaca demonstrated a device that, when switched on, jammed Internet connection and the mobile telephone signal in the hall. The mayor said that if he is penalized, he will pay the fine.
