Dorin Chirtoaca: Despite all difficulties, Chisinau achieved unprecedented results

Mayor general of Chisinau municipality Dorin Chirtoaca said that despite all the difficulties faced in 2016, Chisinau achieved unprecedented results. In a news conference where he summed up the results of this year, the mayor said 2016 was a turning point for Chisinau and for the Republic of Moldova and the end shows itself to be good, IPN reports.

Dorin Chirtoaca noted that the year started with a tragedy in Chisinau – the gas cylinder explosion at the café “La Socra” that ended in casualties. The budget for 2016 was passed with a great delay, in July. Bidding contests could be held only in the second half of the year. In autumn things showed themselves to be difficult. However, the difficulties were overcome and things now stand well.

Among the accomplishments, the mayor noted the repair works in “Valea Morilor” Park, including at the Stair of Cascades, the assembly of 20 trolleybuses in Chisinau, including five that can travel based on batteries, repair of streets, renovation of a number of health facilities, dismantling of billboards, obtaining of financing from the EBRD and EIB for the energy efficiency project.

Speaking about the problems, the mayor mentioned street trading, alimentation in the education system and stray dogs, corruption and the attic-like apartments. The capital city has enough trolleybuses, but the situation as regards buses is worse. These problems are to be dealt with next year.

In 2017 the European development of Chisinau will be continued. The repair of Stefan cel Mare Blvd is to be completed. Rotaries will be built up and the energy efficiency project will be launched.
