The Liberal Party’s candidate for mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, in a press briefing on May 10, said the PL is the target for dirty electoral attacks on the part of the Communist Party (PCRM), Info-Prim Neo reports. Dorin Chirtoaca mentioned the false newspapers and the leaflets denigrating the PL, which, according to him, form part of the PCRM’s propaganda campaign. “We condemn such approaches adopted by our opponents and consider such methods of promoting an electoral contender as uninspired. All these materials are false and have nothing to do with the Liberal Parity’s work,” said Dorin Chirtoaca. He took stock of the activities performed by the Communist Party in the Soviet period, starting with the coup of 1917 and ending with the PCRM’s propaganda during the last decade. “Before and after 1989, the Communists have used the same dirty methods and lies to promote their interests,” said the PL’s candidate. Dorin Chirtoaca stated that the PCRM resorted to such methods because it has not chances of winning the mayoralty of Chisinau and thus tries to shock the public opinion and discredit the electoral opponents. “We call on the electoral contenders, first of all the Communist ones, to conduct a fair election campaign as such methods produce no positive results,” said Dorin Chirtoaca. He informed that the PL will not place election posters in the current campaign. It will only distribute leaflets so that those who want could put them in their homes or units of transport. He argued the current crisis prevents them from making and placing posters as large sums of money are needed for the purpose. False issues of the paper “Timpul de dimineata” (“Morning Time”) appeared in the mailboxes of Chisinau resident during the last three days. They harshly criticized politicians of the parties that form part of the ruling alliance. Also, posters with Dorin Chirtoaca making rude gestures were stuck on walls in Chisinau on Monday. The posters had the symbols of the Liberal Party on them.
