Hundreds of residents and guests of the capital city took part in the opening of the Day of Chisinau City in the square of the Metropolitan Cathedral “God’s Birth”. Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca said on this occasion that Chisinau is a European city that will be part of the EU in ten years, IPN reports.

In his speech, the mayor made a call for peace to the people. “Everyone must realize that we must join the union of peace and prosperity, not the union of conflicts and wars,” stated Dorin Chirtoaca.

Within the event, there was signed a twining agreement with the Ukrainian town Chernautsi. Dorin Chirtoaca said that Ukraine goes through a difficult period as it has to face a war. “We must be near our brothers from Ukraine. If they succeed in winning freedom and independence, we will also succeed,” stated the mayor.

Attending the event, Mayor of Chernautsi Oleksi Kaspruk said the EU offers guarantees for a good and prosperous life. On the occasion of the Day of Chisinau City, the mayor wished the residents peace, prosperity and health. He received a CD with songs about Chisinau, including the city’s anthem sung by Sofia Rotaru who is form Chernautsi, as a present from Dorin Chirtoaca.

This year Chisinau celebrates 578 years of its first attestation. After 5pm, the residents and guests of Chisinau will be able to see a concert that will involve national and foreign singers.
