The activity of the local authorities in 2008 will greatly influence the outcome of the 2009 local elections, Chisinau Mayor General Darin Chirtoaca said at the City Hall’s meeting on January 14. According to him, the task of the municipality of Chisinau is to set out the priorities for 2009. If we succeed, the district administrations will see our success as an encouragement and we will have an additional chance in 2009. Otherwise, we will be the only one to blame, Chirtoaca said. The mayor, who is vice president of the Liberal Party, called on the functionaries to make maximum effort in order to fulfil the City Hall’s tasks, without taking into account the political affiliation. Dorin Chirtoaca said that the existent new formula of activity can benefit everyone: each economic, political and social group can and should work in the period between the elections so that the things go in the right direction. When the results are summed up, everyone should propose their services at their own expense. The mayor said that this formula can also be effective in the relations between the local and central authorities – “when a positive activity results from constructive positions and all the people are advantaged, both those that govern and the ones that are in the Opposition”. The mayor wished the functionaries to see stronger relations in 2008, fewer words and more deeds and full understanding so that the things develop better and better.
