“We are now to join efforts with the pro-European parties and will see what we can borrow from the other contenders’ platforms for the mayoralty,” mayor elect Dorin Chirtoaca, who is the deputy chairman of the Liberal Party, said in the first ordinary meeting of officials of Chisinau services and subdivision held after his suspension from post. In the meeting hall, he was welcomed with applause and flowers, IPN reports.
Dorin Chirtoaca said the election outcome is due not only to him, but also to the employees of all the subdivisions – from sweepers to foremen and division heads. The residents of Chisinau by their votes showed that they have confidence and this puts huge responsibility on him. “We are now to meet the expectations of the people who put their trust in us and empowered us to administer for another four years,” he stated, noting that those who voted for his opponent should be convinced that the choice of the majority is good for them too.
According to the preliminary results of the second round of mayoral elections in Chisinau, presented by the Central Election Commission, Dorin Chirtoaca won 53.44% of the ballot, while his opponent Zinaida Grechenyi, of the Party of Socialists – 46.56%.
