The priority in the area of road infrastructure is to continue to repair the streets in the center of Chisinau, said the Liberal Party’s candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca. In a news conference at the building site on Vasile Alecsandri St on June 16, the candidate presented the stages of the street reconstruction works and announced the priorities for the next few years, IPN reports.
“We decided to make the presentation chapter by chapter until the second round of voting. We will speak about our priorities for the next four years. Today we present our priorities in the area of roads and road infrastructure. It evident that the best place for presentation is this building site in central Chisinau,” stated Dorin Chirtoaca.
He also said that the street Vasile Alecsandri forms part of the six streets that are to be reconstructed within the EBRD program, which is for now the largest project. Besides the repair of sidewalks and the roadway, there will be renovated the public lighting and will be modernized the engineering networks. Parking lots and tracks for bicyclists will be set up. Concrete terms cannot be set yet, but it is important that the period of guarantee should be a long one, of 20-30 years. The works to rehabilitate the six streets may be extended by 2-3 years.
The Liberal candidate said there will be extended a number of streets and intersections so as to fluidize traffic. There will be built several rotaries. The ring road will be also extended so as to avoid congestion with transit transport in central Chisinau.
On June 28, Dorin Chirtoaca and the Party of Socialists’ candidate Zinaida Grecheanyi will compete for the post of mayor in the second round of voting.
