The citizens living in the Republic of Moldova who speak other languages than Romanian and want to study the Romanian language can do it free of charge. The state allocated 10 million lei for facilitating the studying of Romanian after the phrase “Romanian language” was also officially introduced across the national legislation. PAS MP Dorian Istratii called on the citizens who do not know Romanian to profit from the government program to study the Romanian language and to learn the language of the state in which they live, IPN reports.
The Constitutional Court’s decision by which the phrase “Moldovan language” was replaced with “Romanian language” dates from 2013, but the PAS MPs who represent a majority approved amendments to the whole national legislation now. The MPs of the ruling party said that it goes not to the amendment of the Constitution, but to the adjustment of the text of the Supreme Law to the Constitutional Court’s decision.
“For the Romanian language, it is never too late and this thing should have been done long ago, but this wasn’t the commitment of other governments. We made this change. We see the wave of dissatisfaction on the part of Russian speaking citizens who do not know the Romanian language,” Dorian Istratii stated in the program “Freedom with Dorin Galben” on TV8 channel.
The Government also approved the national program concerning the studying of the Romanian language by the national minorities, including the adult population, for 2023-2025. Through the agency of the government program, about 6,000 teachers and managerial staff will be taught the Romanian language.
“Last year, the 10 million lei was budgeted and the Government decision to implement the adopted law was now approved. The law provides that free training courses will be staged for all the other language speaking citizens, not only for the minor ones. Those who want can apply. Also, the teachers in schools will also be taught as we know that the level of teaching the Romanian language in Gagauzia, for example, is very low. That’s why we want to help the citizens to study,” said the PAS MPs.
According to the national program concerning the studying of the Romanian language, 13,000 grownups from different professional categories (justice sector, healthcare, economy, arts, central and local public administration), including adult Ukrainian refugees, can attend Romanian language courses. Also, about 4,000 other language speaking students, among who are children of Ukrainian refugees admitted to Moldovan educational institutions, will take part in different educational programs in the Romanian language.
