Donetsk Academic Regional Drama Theater comes to Chisinau with two plays

Two plays of the Donetsk Academic Regional Drama Theatre will be presented to the public in Moldova. The play “Cry of a Nation” will be staged on May 4, while the comedy “Decameron” on May 5 at the Nameless Theater in Chisinau, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Culture, “Cry of a Nation” is a play with elements of the physical and absurd theater inspired from the biography and works of the Ukrainian poet Vasili Stus. The tragedy combines accounts from the personal diary of the dissident poet, poems, video projections and soundtracks.

The comedy “Decameron” is a modern interpretation of Boccaccio’s novel under the direction of Oleg Melnychuk. It centers on the weak, sinful person who fights temptations, pains and disappointment, but known to fully experience victories, love, joys and hope.

The characters of the play “Decameron” need to flee their homes to avoid the disaster that threatens the whole country. They get onto a bus and travel away. Each of the “travelers” tells life stories (real stories that the characters recreate on stage). An ambulant theater was this way created and the characters from Boccaccio’s renaissance novel acquired new traits, of the modern human.

Both of the plays will be presented in Ukrainian, starting at 7pm. Tickets can be bought from the ticket offices of the host theater and through iTicket.

The project is organized and supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova in partnership with the Nameless Theater and forms part of the events devoted to the Year of Ukrainian Culture in the Republic of Moldova.
