At 1:00 PM, the constituencies with the highest voter turnout were Dondușeni, Rezina, and Șoldănești, with over 28% turnout. Voter participation in Chișinău also reached 28%, in Bălți it was 25%, and in the autonomous region of Gagauzia it stood at 27%. Over 13,000 voters from the left bank of the Dniester have cast their votes across 30 polling stations. These statistics were presented by the president of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Angelica Caraman, reports IPN.
In a briefing, Angelica Caraman stated that the electoral process is proceeding dynamically and in an organized manner. National voter turnout has been significant, reaching over 29% by 1:00 PM. “There’s notable growth in certain localities in the north and south of the country. Compared to the first round, when we had a turnout of 685,000 voters, we see an increase of over 180,000. As in the first round, women are the most active,” explained the CEC president.
According to Caraman, turnout remains lowest among young people aged 18 to 25. "With this in mind, we encourage the 126 young people who are turning 18 today to celebrate this milestone by participating in the elections. The same appeal goes out to the 1,608 new voters who turned 18 between the first and second rounds," urged Angelica Caraman.
The diaspora is actively participating in the second round, with voter turnout continually rising at polling stations in Romania, Russia, and Italy. "The highest turnout so far is in Moscow, with over 2,400 and 2,100 voters at the two polling stations. In Bucharest, there are over 2,400 voters, in Brescia, Italy – 1,700 voters, and in Padua, Italy – 1,600. Shortly, another 10 polling stations will open in the United States and Canada," said the CEC president.
Polling stations will remain open until 9:00 PM.
