The Ice Bucket Challenge for Angelus Moldova brought over 100,000 lei. Interviewed by IPN, Raluca Muntean-Jetha, senior fundraiser at the hospice, said the money was collected during two weeks.
The largest part of the money was donated directly to Hospice Angelus Moldova – almost 45,000 lei. A sum of 20,000 lei was collected as cash transfers to banks, while the online donations came to 40,000 lei.
The event to raise funds for people suffering from cancer was launched in New Zealand under the name Ice Bucket Challenge. Afterward, it became popular in the U.S. where money was collected for persons suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
In Moldova, the challenge was launched by a news website. Money is donated for persons suffering from advanced or terminal cancer and their families. A challenged person has 24 hours at the disposal to dump a bucket of ice water on his/her head and to make a video of this activity. Afterward, this person challenges other people to do the same or to donate money to Hospice Angelus. Most of the people took up the challenge, but made also donations.
