Donation of wheelchairs for persons with locomotor disabilities

A number of 575 persons with disabilities of the locomotor system in the course of 2017 will benefit from new wheelchairs that were donated within a project implemented by the public association “Society of Invalids of the Republic of Moldova” and the charity organization “LDS Charities.Inc”, with support from the United States and the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family, IPN reports.

According to the data of the National Experimental Center of Prosthetics, Orthopedics and Rehabilitation, 1,100 persons with disabilities of the locomotor system were put on the waiting list to be provided with wheelchairs.

Attending the event to distribute wheelchairs, deputy minister of labor Anastasia Ocheretnyi said that owing to the cooperation within this project, about 3,000 persons with disabilities lead an active lifestyle and are integrated into society. “In the future, we aim to provide such aid to all the persons with locomotor disabilities,” she stated.

“We are glad that this year we offered more wheelchairs and fulfilled the dream of many persons who never had a wheelchair. We are grateful to the Moldovan authorities for cooperation and involvement,” said the representative of “LDS Charities.Inc” Jonson Rick.

All the components for wheelchairs are provided free by the donors. A sum of 250,000 lei was allocated from the 2017 state budget for assembling the 575 wheelchairs.
