The Taras Shevchenko Lyceum in Chisinau has received a donation of 900 textbooks in Ukrainian. From September 1, the institution will host a larger number of refugee children from Ukraine.
“The textbooks are for the students of grades 1, 4 and 5, who will follow the new curriculum. The main disciplines will be taught in Ukrainian, with additional teaching in Romanian for subjects such as music, drawing and physical education”, said Deputy Mayor Angela Cutasevici.
According to the official, “these books represent much more than simple objects of study, they are symbols of hope, of the future and of close ties with the Ukrainian identity”.
“At the same time, through this partnership with the representatives of the Ukrainian Rada, we emphasize the importance of international collaboration in support of communities affected by difficult circumstances”, the deputy mayor added.
“Each textbook is not only a learning tool, but also a symbol of our solidarity, respect for Ukrainian culture and identity. With this joint effort, we demonstrate that we are with Ukrainian children, giving them the opportunity to learn in their mother tongue and preserve their traditions”, said the Minister of Education and Research, Dan Perciun during the event.
From August, the 3rd enrollment stage begins, which offers the possibility for Ukrainian children to be enrolled as well.
As of July 3, there were 346 refugee children enrolled in Chisinau’s kindergartens and 840 children enrolled in municipal schools.
“Parents from the Ukrainian community are encouraged to enroll their children in educational institutions in Chisinau in order to integrate them socially, but also to provide a safe space for children from Ukraine. Chisinau City Hall is open to discussions with international partners to obtain support for the renovation and equipping of educational spaces”, the City Hall said in a press release.
