The people in rural areas will benefit from free drugs intended for the treatment of cardiovascular and parasitic diseases. A Hungarian pharmaceutical company donated a consignment of drugs to the value of over 1.65 million lei. The medicines will be distributed to rural health centers according to the number of patients treated there, IPN reports.

Secretary of State at the Ministry of Health Nicolae Jelamschi told a news conference that the cardiovascular diseases are the most spread in Moldova, being also the main cause of mortality. “These drugs will be distributed to patients in rural areas, who have limited access to health services and need financial protection. The Ministry of Health is ready to support any company or organization that intends to make such a donation,” he stated.

The donation by the Hungarian company consists of 14,000 packs of the drug “Normodipine”, which is used to treat cardiovascular diseases, especially hypertension, and 33,615 packs of the anti-parasitic drug “Decaris”. “Our company implemented one more humanitarian project by supplying one of the most efficient drugs – “Normodipine” – to 14,000 patients in rural areas. For this category of patients, the access to drugs is more problematic,” said Alexandr Derbentev, director of the Representative Office of the donor company Gedeon Richter in Moldova.

According to the Ministry’s official data, the cardiovascular diseases are the most spread diseases in Moldova. The number of patients who suffered from such diseases in 2015 totaled 862,545, about 343,546 of whom suffered from hypertension.

In 2015, the morbidity due to parasitic diseases was over 15,000 cases. Statistics show that the people in rural areas suffer from such diseases in much higher numbers than in Chisinau municipality for example. The rate of such diseases per 100 examinations in the municipality is 0.9%, while in the other settlements of the country – 4.5%.
