More than 100 kindergartens and 20 placement centers in Soroca, Drochia and Rascani district received a donation of 20 tonnes of fruit and vegetables within the social campaign “Domestic products for Moldova’s children”. Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Eduard Grama has told IPN that cans and bakery products will be donated to other national education institutions within the campaign.
“We decided to start with the northern districts and will then extend to other districts during six months. We will make donations of cans and bakery products closer to the winter holidays so as to bring joy to the children. The products are donated by associations of producers,” stated Eduard Grama.
Olga Corbu, director of kindergarten No. 17 of Soroca, said she was pleasantly surprised by the donation. “We promote a healthy lifestyle and are glad that we will benefit from this donation. We thank those who contributed to the healthy nutrition of children,” she stated. The kindergarten is attended by 276 children and the donated quantity of apples will be enough until this yearend.
Head of Soroca district Mihai Matu said an initiative entitled “An apple for each child” has been implemented in the district for several years. Within this, the 100 education institutions are supplied with apples grown in Moldova. After the Apple Festival, they annually purchase apples for the children from the district and these are distributed by the end of December.
The campaign campaign “Domestic products for Moldova’s children” was launched in Chisinau at the end of this August and will continue for six months.
