Moldova received 25 beds and 25 portable monitors for patients in intensive care units to the value of over €45,000, delivered by the European Union and the World Health Organization. The medical equipment was distributed to 12 district hospitals in Fălești, Ocnița, Dondușeni, Ungheni and will help the doctors to better deal with patients under intensive care, including Ukrainian refugees, IPN reports, quoting a press release.

Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco thanked the donors for the support provided to the health system of Moldova. “Owing to this equipment, the district hospitals will strengthen the national capacities for managing the flow of patients. The hospitalized persons will enjoy better treatment conditions and the doctors and healthcare workers will be able to use a wider range of tools,” stated the minister.

“We stand by the citizens and the authorities of the Republic of Moldova in the fight against COVID-19 and in the management of the refugee crisis. Together, by solidarity and cooperation, we can overcome the obstacles,” stated Victoria Neaga, Project Manager at the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova.

“The World Health Organization continues to help the health system and medical workers by donations, technical equipment and training of medical staff,” said Miljana Grbic, WHO Representative in the Republic of Moldova.

Iurie Osoianu, director of the Fălești District Hospital, where the donation ceremony was held, noted that the received equipment will help the hospital to more correctly and rapidly manage the flow of patients.

The donation forms part of the EU-WHO Project “EU4Moldova: for a Sustainable Health System” for 2021-2024 whose general objective is to alleviate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Republic of Moldova and to strengthen the national health system in the long run. The total value of the project is €5.1 million.
