A number of 65 persons with locomotor disabilities from Moldova, most of whom are from rural areas, are beneficiaries of Czech Embassy’s project “Provision of socially vulnerable patients with wheelchairs and other accessories for persons with disabilities” that is implemented by the public association “HOMECARE”, IPN reports.
Ambassador of the Czech Republic Zdeněk Krejčí said the Republic of Moldova is a priority country for the Czech support. The project to deliver wheelchairs and accessories cost 350,000 lei. Overall, the Czech Republic this year has allocated about €90,000 for projects implemented in the Republic of Moldova.
Head of the Nursing Association of the Republic of Moldova Elena Stempovskaya, who founded the association “HOMECARE”, said the equipment purchased with the support of the Czech people is intended mainly for persons with locomotor disabilities from rural areas, who often do not know about the existence of gear that can ensure their mobility. Owing to this equipment, the people will not be confined to bed and will be able to go out when the weather is fine, to stay under a tree or to talk to neighbors.
Deputy Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Viorica Dumbraveanu noted it is very important to have credible partners for implementing such projects of social importance. The authorities will always support and encourage partnerships of such a kind to as to support the persons with disabilities.
“HOMECARE” director Tamara Adasan said the 65 persons are beneficiaries of the association’s eight social centers situated in the country’s regions. 15 persons received wheelchairs, while 50 – crutches or walking sticks.
According to the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family, in Moldova there are about 14,000 persons with locomotor disabilities.
