The Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child has launched a campaign to collect books for the library of the Chisinau-based Shelter Home for Pensioners and Invalids, Info-Prim Neo reports. The campaign themed “Donate a Book to Bring Light” will run until 31 January 2008. Everyone eager to donate books is welcome to bring them to the Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child, on 1 Alecsandri Street, 1st floor, office 101. At the same time, the Ministry calls on people to offer financial support to these persons, who lack the warmth and love of the family. As only the family brings true happiness, let us help these unhappy elderly people with whom life was not very kind, the Ministry said in a press statement. Established in 1977, the Chisinau Shelter Home for Invalids and Pensioners provides housing and care to 207 senior people, 66 of whom are confined to bed or a wheelchair. The institution is financed by the state, its residents benefiting from medical, social and counselling services, as well as cultural activities.
