The National Food Safety Agency reminds the owners of animals and birds that the cold season of the year is difficult for animals and fowl and that they need special care is winter, IPN reports.
The Agency recommends that shelters be set up, but these should not be hermetically sealed, so that the animals are protected from cold air currents and precipitation. Also, the animals must be provided with light, dry straw or sawdust on which to sleep, and sufficient quantities of water and feed, in appropriate equipment.
Animal transporters are advised to avoid extreme weather conditions, ensure a safe vehicle for the animals and check the route in advance.
In the event that the welfare of the animals is affected, the owners are obliged to notify the mayor’s office or the local food safety subdivision in the region for these to take the necessary measures, noted the Agency.
