A common law court sentenced a man from Chetroșica Nouă village of Edineț district to three years in jail for hitting his female partner with a hammer, IPN reports.

The Prosecutor General’s Office said the incident happened at the end of this May. The 56-year-old man attacked his partner, who is by almost six years older than him, after she spoke rudely to him. The woman remained alive, but needed medical care.

The abuser was arrested immediately after the incident and was held throughout the investigation.

He committed similar acts of domestic violence in 2016 and 2018. He was punished with over 200 hours of community service and was given a suspended sentence for them.
