Dog days boost interest in swimming pools
Chisinau's swimming pools have been packed over the past weekend with hundreds of people seeking refuge from the scorching sun. To cope with the challenges brought by the dog days, the administrators of swimming pools are looking for solutions to improve services in quality and volume.
According to the administrator of the State University's swimming poll at the Palace of Sports, Iurie Caisin, the rising temperatures have brought more people than usual to the venue. To attract more customers, a series of measures are being considered, including discounts on monthly tickets, which now range from 350 to 450 lei.
The largest pool in the country, the one administered by the University of Physical Training and Sports, charges the highest fees, too. A monthly ticket for adults is 500 lei and for children is by 50 lei cheaper. Yet, the manager of the pool, Nicolae Cerbusca, says that people have been queuing at the venue to get a chance to cool off. One of the arguments in favor of swimming pools is the unacceptable quality of the water in ponds across the city. Cerbusca added that the venue would be remodeled to cope with the rising demand for swimming, with the possibility of offering other services being considered.
