Dodon will start new round of discussions with Russia, but nothing special will follow, opinion

During his visit to Moscow in the second half of January, President Igor Dodon will start a new round of discussions, but he will obtain nothing special, analyst Igor Botan stated, quoted by IPN.

“We expect only that Igor Dodon will repeat what Vladimir Voronin did. It’s true that Mister Voronin was stronger and wiser, from my viewpoint. Vladimir Voronin, at the end of 2002 or the start of 2003, said he had about 20 tête-à-tête meetings with Vladimir Putin and could resolve nothing, neither the problem related to the Customs Union nor the Transnistrian issue,” said Igor Botan.

According to him, Igor Dodon in Moscow will speak about the necessity of the strategic ties envisioned in the Friendship Treaty with the Russian Federation, which was extended for ten years, but will raise nothing special. “A result may be that Mister Dodon will invoke the roadmap that was negotiated by Dmitry Rogozin and Octavian Calmac and will say that he contributed to promoting this idea. It is a matter of complacency,” stated the analyst.

The visit to Moscow, scheduled for January 17, is the first official visit that President Igor Dodon will make abroad.
