Igor Dodon said that if the elections are classed as democratic and valid by all the responsible institutions, until December 24 he remains the President with all the relevant constitutional powers. According to him, there is a functional government and there is the largest parliamentary group and a majority can be ensured in Parliament to support the current executive, IPN reports.

“To avoid different interpretations and to manage the situation, including in Parliament and that related to the pandemic and other existing problems, I will initiate discussions with the parliamentary groups,” Igor Dodon stated after the meeting with the Parliament Speaker and the Prime Minister.

A meeting with the Socialist parliamentary group was scheduled for November 16. The Democratic MPs will be invited to discussions on November 17. The MPs of the PAS, PPPDA and other groups will be invited later. “We must find out the views. There are several important laws that should be adopted in the nearest future and the people expect them to be adopted. I mean the budget and the fiscal policy, several bills that are stipulated in the program with the International Monetary Fund,” stated Igor Dodon.

He noted that a President in the Republic of Moldova can fulfill his/her duties only when this enjoys the support of the Government and Parliament.

“I have a message for those who consider that they found an idol on the right. Dear friends, how many idols have you had since 2009? Chirtoacă, the Government of Filat, Leancă. You know how these ended up? The bigger are the expectations – and we now see statements made out of euphoria – the quicker will come the disappointment,” he said, noting that the Republic of Moldova is a parliamentary country and the President can meet expectations and fulfill particular promises when this enjoys the support of the Government and Parliament.

According to the preliminary results of the presidential runoff, Maia Sandu won 57.75% of the vote, while Igor Dodon – 42.25%.
