A series of agreements between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union were signed in a hurry, President of Moldova Igor Dodon said in a meeting with the chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia Valentina Matviyenko in Moscow, IPN reports.
“We understand the geopolitical realities at the current stage and understand that agreements that Moldova signed with EU are now applied, but consider that these were signed in a hurry, in 2014, and we plead for signing new accords,” Igor Dodon was quoted by the online publication RIA Novosti as saying.
According to RIA Novosti, the Republic of Moldova and the EU signed the Association Agreement, which includes the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, in June 2014. After this was ratified, the relations between Chisinau and Moscow worsened. Under the Agreement, Moldova should open up its market for the EU products. For its part, Russia, being concerned that the EU goods will be re-exported through Moldova, imposed temporary bans on the import of Moldovan products.
