The leader of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) Igor Dodon and the leader of the Political Party “Our Party” (PPPN) Renato Usatyi demanded again that President Nicolae Timofti should resign, saying the resignation should be tendered by this weekend. In a news conference, the two said they have many plans for the near future, but do not want to reveal them as these could be compromised by their opponents, IPN reports.
Igor Dodon stated that both the PSRM and PPPN will insist on the resignation of the head of state as this is the only legal possibility for calling early parliamentary elections. They will also insist on the resignation of the managers of a number of institutions, such as the Central Election Commission, so that the elections are free and fair.
The two politicians also said that they cannot speak about the events planned by them because their opponents could hamper these. They noted they will stage a series of events and all of these will be within the law.
On September 27, the PSRM and PPPN staged several protest marches in Chisinau and a joint demonstration before the Parliament Building, where the two parties put up several hundred tents. The demands they put forward were classified into three categories and include the resignation of President Nicolae Timofti and of a number of high-ranking officials and the giving of a vote of no confidence to the Strelet Government.
