The security level of the identification papers issued to foreigners, refugees and beneficiaries of humanitarian protection was increased. A draft decision to this effect was approved by the Government on May 25. Under the draft decision, the technology of making these papers will be modernized, IPN reports.

According to Minister of Information and Communication Technology Vasile Botnari, the implementation of the new technology for personalizing the documents for these categories of people represents the last stage of switching over to the production of papers from polycarbonate. “The identification papers issued earlier to foreigners, refugees and beneficiaries of humanitarian protection will be used until their period of validity expires,” he stated.

The draft decision provides that laser equipment will be used to inscribe data in the internal layer of the card. The introduction of the new elements of protection will reduce the possibility of falsifying documents.

According to the informative note to the draft decision, the design of the new identification papers was modified slightly. The structure and content of the information areas are the same as those in the current documents.
