The National Theater “Mihai Eminescu” organizes a memory tour within which the document-play “Siberia Dossiers” will be presented on national stages during June 7 – July 6. This is a play to commemorate the attempts to exterminate the Romanians from the space between the Prut and the Nistru under the Soviet occupation of Bessarabia (1940, 1944-1991) through organized famine and systemic deportations, IPN reports.
The tour starts on June 7 at the house of culture of Ungheni municipality (Ungheni mayor’s office). The program of the tour: Chisinau – June 11; Balti – June 13; Hâncești – June 14; Edineț – June 20; Cimișlia – June 21; Rezina – July 5; Chisinau – July 6.
“Not many of the eyewitnesses who experienced the sufferings and terror of the Soviet regime are now among us. Many departed this life. They probably do not need anything from us, not even our memory. But we need these recollections and our children and grandchildren need them too. We need them to realize and acknowledge that hatred, violence and terror cannot create a good world with happy people,” the Theater noted in a press release.
The tour is staged in the framework of a project that is supported by the Government of the Republic of Moldova, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova, the local public authorities and the U.S. Embassy in Moldova.
