Doctors who avoid prescribing compensated drugs to be penalized

The Ministry of Health said there are districts where the level of prescription of compensated drugs for the 17 diseases that can be treated in ambulatory conditions is null or very low, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry, even if the list of compensated drugs was extended by another 65 common international names, there are settlements where the level of prescribed compensated drugs is tens of times lower than in other districts. In communities in the districts of Soroca, Telenesti, Calarasi, Causeni, Drochia, Falesti, Rezina, Rascani, and Sangerei, the family doctors didn’t issue prescriptions for the compensated drugs in the necessary volume.

“A year ago, there wasn’t enough money or there weren’t orders to this effect, but now we witness cases when the available financial resources are not used. We have over 200 million lei that must reach the people. The attitude of some doctors who evidently hamper the people’s access to compensated rugs, endangering health, will be harshly penalized,” said Minister of Health Ruxanda Glavan.

The Ministry of Health will issue warning letters to the district heads and competent bodies so that these take the required measures without delay. It will also set up a special commission that will monitor the prescription of compensated drugs in the districts that face problems in this regard. The competent institutions will have to weekly report on the compensated drugs prescription level.

On September 22, the Ministry of Health extended the list of drugs that are compensated with money from the mandatory health insurance funds up to 140 common international names of drugs.
