Doctors welcome the interim Government’s decision to ask Parliament to declare a state of emergency. Specialists say the health system no longer copes with the large number of patients. According to them, even if the state of emergency implies the temporary stopping of economic activities, the human lives cost more. Doctor Victor Cojocaru said the treatment of a patient in intensive care at the Republican Hospital can amount to 300,000 lei, IPN reports.
According to doctors, the critical pandemic situation in Moldova requires the declaring of a state of emergency. The restrictions and harsh punishments for non-observance of these will help reduce the pressure on the health system.
“The public transport units are full of people, the shopping centers are packed, the places of worship are crowded and no rule is obeyed. Since the beginning of this year we have witnessed more deaths than last year. The presence of the British strain was confirmed and there could also be other more aggressive and contagious variants of the virus. This amalgam is fought by a health system that is also sick,” national vaccination campaign coordinator Ninel Revenco stated in the program “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.
Moreover, specialists say the necessity of declaring a state of emergency is also derives from the fact that the intensive care units do not cope with the large number of patients, while the health workers are exhausted.
“The situation in the intensive care unit is serious. The cost of treatment for a patient in intensive care is of 60,000 to 300,000 lei. It does not go to money only. The doctors are tired. No any doctor can work in the intensive care unit. If we have intensive care units only with beds and with inexperienced doctors, we will create pre-morgue units and the patients will only wait to die in intensive care,” said the head of the intensive care unit of the Republican Hospital Victor Cojocaru.
On March 30, the Cabinet decided to request Parliament to declare a state of emergency all over the country. Such a Parliament decision is taken by the votes of at least 51 MPs.
