On the morning of September 17, the doctors who monitor the health status of the MP Regina Apostolova, who was detained a day ago, gave approval for her to participate in criminal proceedings. The statement was made for IPN by Emil Gaitur, the spokesman of the General Prosecutor's Office.
"We will see how criminal proceedings will be carried out. Either the prosecutors will go to the hospital where Regina Apostolova is admitted or she will come to the Prosecutor's Office”, said Emil Gaitur.
According to Igor Curov, deputy medical director of the Emergency Hospital, where Regina Apostolova is admitted, the health status of the MP is stable and out of danger. "Regina Apostolova will be hospitalized for as long as she needs medical care", said Igor Curov.
As for Marina Tauber, the Prosecutor's Office said that she was detained for 72 hours in the CNA isolator. "After the expiration of the 72 hours, based on the results of the criminal investigation, it will be determined whether the prosecutors will request the court to arrest the MP. It is not yet known”, said Emil Gaitur.
A Prosecutor's Office press release states that today searches were carried out at the homes and offices of several persons involved in the same criminal case in which Regina Apostolova and Marina Tauber are listed. The searches were carried out including at the home of Vladimir Novosadiuc, the director of Sputnik Moldova.
Asked by IPN, Iulian Balan, Marina Tauber's legal counselor, said that he won't comment on his client's situation.
A Șor Party press release states that over three thousand members and supporters of the party are protesting in front of the National Anti-corruption Center demanding the release of Tauber and Regina Aposolova. Several citizens have posted banners condemning the current government, especially President Igor Dodon, whom they consider to be responsible for the attack on the Mps.
Parliament lifted the immunity of MPs Marina Tauber and Regina Apostolova on Monday. The MPs were detained on the same day. The General Prosecutor's Office explains that the detention comes as a result of "their attempt to evade criminal prosecution". Acting General Prosecutor Dumitru Robu said in Parliament that there is conclusive evidence regarding the involvement of the MPs in the bank fraud. According to the prosecutor, Marina Tauber and Regina Apostolova, starting August 17, 2012, have actively participated in the devaluation of the banking system, granting assistance to Ilan Șor's group in order to take over of a bank.
