Doctor convicted of negligence
The head of the surgery division of the Straseni District Hospital was sentenced to two years in jail for medical negligence that resulted in the death of a person. He was yet put on probation, with a trial period of three years, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, last January a man with a head injury went to see a doctor. The doctor, without thoroughly examining the patient, sewed the wound at the nape and sent the man home. The 56-year-old man died at home the next day, being diagnosed with subdural haematoma.
The prosecutors said in court that the death could have been avoided if the doctor had diagnosed the man in time and performed the necessary surgery.
The culprit aged 63 was also banned from working as a doctor for a period of three years.
The prosecutors consider the sentence is too lenient and intend to appeal it to a higher court.
