Doctor arrested for taking bribe

A division head of the Balti-based Psychiatric Hospital No. 4 was caught in the act of taking €200 marked ‘bribe’ from a patient, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime (CCCEC). The doctor was arrested in his office on November 11. According to the denouncer, the doctor asked from him for this sum for writing in his medical card a diagnosis that would enable him to later receive a disability degree. A legal case was started over passive corruption. The doctor faces 5 to 10 years in prison or a fine of 20 000 to 60 000 lei. The CCCEC has investigated eight doctors so far this year.
