The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) identified serious violations in the purchase of medical equipment for genetic testing (DNA). Damage of about 6 million lei was caused to the state budget in this case. Moreover, the equipment cannot be used because not all the procedures were respected, IPN reports.
According to the PGO, the winner of the tender contest offered to supply the equipment at a price that was three times higher than the prices offered by other bidders. The equipment was to be bought after the construction of the genetic lab, but this wasn’t yet done and the equipment cannot be used for the set purpose.
Moldova is the only state in Europe that does not possess such equipment. The Moldovan prosecutors have to use the genetic testing services of other states.
Following the identified illegalities, the PGO started a criminal case over misuse of power. Officials of the Ministry of Health and of the Public Procurement Agency are being investigated.
