Dmitry Medvedev may come to Chisinau this year
Russian Premier Dmitry Medvedev is expected to pay a visit to Moldova this year, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said in an interview for Radio Free Europe, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“We agreed that the visit will be made in 2013. I hope that we will be in the situation to organize this visit. It is important for us to strengthen these relations,” said Vlad Filat.
He also said that the priorities of the Moldovan-Russian cooperation in the energy sector are related to the negotiation of a new contract for the supply of gas with Gazprom. “It is important for such a bilateral agreement to exist as we need predictability in the short term at least. We need this contract so that we have an appropriate price for the Moldovan end-users and solve the problem of debts accumulated by the Transnistrian economic entities towards Moldovagaz and, as a result, towards Gazprom, and the problems related to the transportation of gas to the Balkans via Moldova,” stated the Premier.
According to him, the prices for 2013 will be lower. “It is a trend. The average price will be about US$370 per 1,000 cubic meters of gas. We are also to finish the construction of the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipe so as to diversify the natural gas supply sources,” said Vlad Filat.
The Moldovan Premier invited Dmitry Medvedev to Chisinau last September, after a bilateral meeting held in Moscow.
