The EPC Summit that will take place in Moldova will transmit a message to the whole world - that the country is a safe place - and this will bring value added for the general development potential of the county, director general of the Interethnic Relations Agency Dmitri Moruz said in a public debate hosted by IPN.

H noted that the opportunities that will be opened up for cultural interconnection should be regarded as elements that will help to develop sustainable cultural relations with the European community. “If we speak about investments, about the sustainability of development, we should have a long-term view. In this regard, I’m delighted by this message about security and safety which will be transmitted and we should not miss the chance to take the opportunities that will appear as a result of this summit,” stated Dmitri Moruz.

He noted that it is as important to find practical ways to speak about the possibilities of taking these opportunities and to fully realize what social cohesion means and how it can be forged in a society and at the level of the international community.

“As we are part of the European community, we already have particular responsibilities and must correspond to a particular level of life and legislation. On the other hand, we speak about social cohesion. This is a contemporary and attractive word for being used, but we do not fully realize what this cohesion means and what will happen if there is no social cohesion. When we speak about ethnic communities, we speak about people with cultural background that is probably different. We speak about linguistic minorities that live in a different information space,” noted Dmitri Moruz.

The director general of the Interethnic Relations Agency Dmitri Moruz also said that the Moldovans should be well prepared and patient as the impact of the summit will be a major one, but it will not necessarily positively affect all the spheres of life immediately after it is held. “We need to analyze things and see what we can do and should be attentive and ready to make use of the dissemination information so as to take all the opportunities,” stated Dmitri Moruz.

He noted that at least in the field of observance of human rights, including the rights of ethnic minorities, the situation will automatically improve as there will be criteria and standards that will be much higher than in the Republic of Moldova at present.

The public debate entitled “European Political Community Summit, opportunities opened up for cultural interconnection” was the fifth installment of IPN’s project “Support for European Integration by stimulating discussion in the mass media about the European Political Community (EPC) Summit” that is supported by Soros Foundation Moldova.
