The contradictions between Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and the leader of the PLDM Vlad Filat can lead to a rupture that would be fatal for the whole pro-European political camp of Moldova, expert of the Institute for Development and Social Initiative “Viitorul” Corneliu Ciurea said in a program on Realitatea TV, IPN reports.
According to Ciurea, the disagreements between the two appeared after Iurie Leanca was named Premier and, by his statements in support of Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta for the Romanian presidency, dissociated himself from the PLDM. “A party member must be loyal to the party of which he forms part. I do not think that Leanca’s gesture is a courageous one. It is rather a gesture dictated by the current political conjuncture in Moldova and the potential alliance with the Democratic Party,” said the expert.
Corneliu Ciurea also said that these whims of Leanca are tolerated by the leader of the PLDM, though it was a provocative act that tested Filat’s patience. Throwing support to a candidate for the presidency of another state is not in accordance with the county’s national interests. “Leanca supports the message of another party and dissociated himself from the party of which he forms part,” he stated.
Corneliu Ciurea called on Filat and Leanca to avoid a ‘divorce’ at least until the November 30 parliamentary elections. “They are both valuable for the PLDM and this party is very important in the pro-European political camp. So, the problem of the PLDM is the problem of the whole pro-European camp and this party should remain integral until the elections. The leaving of Leanca would be a serious blow. What MP Ionita does is insignificant compared with this. Such a blow would be dramatic for the country’s European course,” he said.
