The first Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Unit out of the 11 such units that will be fully repaired and outfitted with modern equipment with the support of the World Bank was inaugurated at “Anatolie Prisăcari” Soroca District Hospital. The unit has 12 beds and will provide medical assistance to critically ill, polytraumatized patients with cardiovascular diseases, such as myocardial infarction or stroke, not only from Soroca district, but also from neighboring districts. At the same time, the hospital, being one of the 11 primary stroke centers, was also equipped with a state-of-the-art computed tomography machine, IPN reports.

Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco said that the full repair and equipment of the division was possible as part of the Emergency Covid-19 Response Project carried out by the World Bank together with the Ministry of Health, and the investments made in this unit totaled about 20 million lei - 18.2 million lei provided within the project, while 1.8 million lei from the state budget and the donation of foreign partners.



Attending the event, President Maia Sandu said that the inaugurated unit looks like a European division. “These new conditions, the modern equipment you will use from now on will help you save even more lives and we will continue to do everything we can so that such units exist everywhere, in all the hospitals and that all the units are modernized and outfitted with state-of-the-art equipmen,” stated the official.

World Bank Country Director for Moldova Inguna Dobraja noted that such events demonstrate how the financing provided by the World Bank together with the Moldovan authorities works. This intensive care unit, along with 10 other such units across the country, will improve the way health services are provided in the country.

Ella Ursu, director of “Anatolie Prisăcari” Soroca District Hospital, said that the challenges faced by the health system during the Covid-19 pandemic proved that it is necessary to renovate the intensive care system. The modernization of the hospital’s infrastructure is very important and will contribute to increasing the quality of medical services provided to patients and improving patient care services, and will also be an attraction for young specialists.
