Divers recover body of boy who drowned in Prut River

Cahul divers this morning recovered the body of a boy, 12, who drowned in the Prut River. The body was found and pulled to the shore near the village of Colibaș.

The General Inspectorate for Emergencies says that, in the afternoon of August 13, two boys went swimming unsupervised in the village of Vadul lui Isac.

The 12-year-old boy went for a dive and never resurfaced, as his companion got scared and ran away. The drowned child’s clothes and bicycle were later found by Border Police, who alerted the emergency services.

The search mission began on August 14 and continued until this morning. The boy’s body was found and pulled out of the water near the village of Colibaș.

Since the beginning of the year, 56 adults and 10 minors have drowned in water bodies across the country. Parents are once again warned not to leave their children unsupervised near the water, and explain the risks of swimming in places that are not properly equipped and do not have lifeguard stations.
