Minister of Defense Anatol Salaru tried to corrupt a number of Liberal MPs in an attempt to destroy the Liberal Party from inside, the party’s chairman Mihai Ghimpu said, commenting on the decision of the PL’s Political Bureau to withdraw the political support for Minister Salaru. The accusation was made within a call-in in the talk show “In Depth” on PRO TV Chisinau channel. On the other hand, in a post on his Facebook page, Anatol Salaru wrote that this way Mihai Ghimpu takes revenge on him for suggesting convening the congress of the PL for examining the opportunity of replacing the party’s administration, IPN reports.
“It is about the policy to destroy the Liberal Party and Mister Salaru pursues such a goal. The conflict bears no relation to this. He started to attract MPs, to corrupt them and to destroy the parliamentary group. The MPs confirmed the discussions they had with Salaru, that he offered them money to leave the PL,” stated Ghimpu. He announced that he already made a request to the Prime Minister to make approaches to the Head of State for this to dismiss Anatol Salaru from the post of minister of defense.
In a press release, the PL says its Political Bureau came together for a meeting that involved the Liberal MPs and ministers. Among the discussed subjects was Anatol Salaru’s inappropriate behavior towards the Liberal Party during the last three months. A number of MPs and heads of local organizations told about Salaru’s attempts to destroy the Liberal parliamentary group and the party. Some of the members were offered money and favors. In the meeting, Anatol Salaru said he only discussed the convocation of an extraordinary congress with a number of party members.
In the posting, Anatol Salaru says Ghimpu takes revenge on him because he suggested choosing another chairman of the Liberal Party. “I asked to convoke the congress to discuss the situation inside the party, which is a clear and transparent objective. It was normal for Mihai Ghimpu, after such a result that brought us at half of the sampling error of polls, to resign as chairman and to accept the convening of the congress to choose a new administration,” he wrote. The politician noted that he does not intend to leave the party that he founded and for which he struggled.
