Teachers may stage protests in reaction to a delay in the payment of their vacation allowance, stated Dumitru Ivanov, chair of the Education and Science Union. “I was told by professors around the country that they did not receive their money. Vacation allowances were paid in the cities, but not in the villages. If the problem is not solved, teachers may stage protests. In this sense, we have several signals from teachers in Gagauzia, Soldanesti, Edinet, Floresti, Telenesti”, said Dumitru Ivanov. According to Dumitru Ivanov, the situation is critical. The Ministry of Finance did not transfer the funds necessary for paying the regional teachers’ salaries. The Union addressed a letter to the Ministry, requesting it to solve the issue. Under to the Labor Code, the employer is obligated to pay the vacation allowance, at least, three days before the employees’ leave. The Education and Science Union is a member of the National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova. Its membership includes 103,000 teachers and 34,000 students.
