The population’s disposable incomes in 2020 represented 3,096 lei on average a month, an increase of 7.5% on a year before. Adjusted to the consumer price index, the population’s incomes rose by 3.6%. The salary earnings are the main source of income of the population. They represent 50.2% of the total incomes, IPN reports.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the social welfare is the second source of livelihood by importance. The own-account activities also contributed to the formation of incomes. The individual agricultural activity represented 8.3% of the own-account activities, while individual non-agricultural activity - 6.3%.
Money transfers from abroad remained a significant source for the budget of households, being by 0.5 percentage points higher than in 2019.
The incomes of the urban population were 1.4 times higher than of the rural population, which was also more dependent on transfers from aboard and on social benefits.
The average monthly consumption costs of the population in 2020 were 2,791.2 lei, practically at the same level as a year before. The population spent by 3.5% less than in 2019. The costs for food consumption constituted 43.5%, being followed by those for dwellings, public utilities, footwear and clothing.
The urban population spent1.5 times more than the rural one. The people in urban areas allocated 39.8% of the monthly consumption costs for food, while those in rural areas – 47.2%. The urban population spent more on transport, health, recreation, education and restaurants, while the rural population on footwear and clothing, maintaining of dwellings and telecommunications.
The quarterly evolution of the population’s revenues followed oscillating trends in 2020. The lowest incomes were recorded in the second quarter, while the highest ones in the fourth quarter. The contribution of salaries last year declined from 49.4% in the first quarter to 49.0% in the fourth quarter.
