Dismissal of Government didn’t affect position of Filat in politicians’ rankings

Acting Prime Minister Vlad Filat remains the leader in the Top 50 rankings of the most influential politicians of Moldova for March. He is followed by acting Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca and the leader of the PCRM Vladimir Voronin, IPN reports.

The Top 10 rankings remained practically the same as a month before, even if March was marked by the dismissal of the Government, Anatol Taranu, head of the Institute for Political Consultancy and Analysis “Politicon”, told a news conference.

”Even if the Cabinet is acting, Vlad Filat continues to head the rankings. Something exceptional and long-lasting should happen for the leader to be changed. The current political situation can degenerate into early elections and this leading position will represent an electoral engine for the PLDM,” said Anatol Taranu. According to him, Vlad Filat and Iurie Leanca are a duo that guarantees the PLDM a relatively quiet life before the possible early elections.

As to Vladimir Voronin’s place, Anatol Taranu said that though the Communist leader does not have considerable legislative and executive leverages, he takes a leading position and this shows that the PCRM is ready for early elections.

Speaker Marian Lupu climbed several spots to the fourth. According to the political analyst, Marian Lupu made fewer statements in the recent past and this favored him rather than disfavored him.

Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca comes fifth, followed by President Nicolae Timofti and the head of the Lib-Dems in Parliament Valeriu Strelet. The Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu ranks eighth. “This is a traditional place for Mister Ghimpu. This shows that he reached a ceiling that he cannot pass over. Last month Mihai Ghimpu made a lot of statements, but this didn’t enable him to go up,” said Anatol Taranu. MP Vlad Plahotniuc climbed to the ninth spot, while the head of the Democratic faction Dumitru Diacov comes tenth.

The rankings were compiled with the assistance of 36 experts who gave grades to the politicians depending on their influence on the taken decisions, visibility in the media, public popularity, and political prospects.
