Discussions with PCRM can focus only on early elections, PL
“After June 3, we will discuss only the holding of early parliamentary elections with the Communist Party. The discussion of the vote that they need to elect the head of state is out of the question,” the leader of the Liberal Party (PL) Mihai Ghimpu said Monday at the meeting of the party’s Standing Bureau.
“We will not vote for a Communist president. The vote that we obtained on April 5 is against the Communists. The voters that support our party are for early elections,” Mihai Ghimpu said.
Speaking about the commission set up by the PCRM for a dialogue with the Opposition, Ion Hadarca, MP representing the PL and member of the Standing Bureau, said that it is an expression of dictatorship. “They want that we obey them. We want that the Resolution of the European Parliament is observed and that there is created a framework for a credible dialogue. The Resolution calls to dialogue, but the PCRM uses this idea hypocritically,” the MP said.
“After June 3, we must immediately discuss the conditions of holding free and fair elections, with the participation of European experts, the access to the public mass media and the implementation of the EP’s Resolution,” said the vice president of the PL Dorin Chirtoaca.
Mihai Moldovanu, MP of the parliamentary group of the PL, said that the dialogue initiated by the Communists is a method for diverting the electorate’s attention. “The PL cannot discuss with the Communists as it did not have access to the public media after the elections and many young people are still under arrest over accusations that they took part in events that happened after April 5,” Moldovanu said.
According to Ghimpu, six members of the PL were contacted by phone and offered money in exchange for their vote on June 3. But the exact sums were not mentioned. “If they contacted us to bribe us, this means that they are in despair,” the PL leader said.
During the televised program “In Profunzime” (“In Depth”) on Pro TV on Monday evening, the first deputy speaker of Parliament Vladimir Turcan said that he knows nothing about cases to bribe the Opposition MPs. Asked if the President of Moldova will be elected on June 3, Turcan said that everybody will find out when the president of the special commission for holding rerun elections for the head of state announces the results when the voting is over.
