No progress was made in the new round of negotiations to form a ruling alliance held by the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), the Democratic Party (PDM) and the Liberal Party (PL). The leaders of the three political parties are dissatisfied because the conditions put forward are not accepted or because conditions are imposed, IPN reports.
The acting leader of the PLDM Valeriu Strelet told the press that no agreement has been reached so far. There is no common position as to the appointment of a politically unaffiliated person as Prime Minister. A new National Political Council of the PLDM could be convened so as to discuss offering broader powers to those who negotiate, so that these could discuss other proposals too, or withdrawing from the talks. The ‘zero variant’, when no party can demand senior state posts, wasn’t accepted either.
The leader of the PL Mihai Ghimpu said the parties involved in the talks must have only one right – to negotiate. “We discuss here and then go to the party and tell how things stand. It’s not reasonable to come with conditions and then to run to the party every time and ask if something is possible or not. Imposing conditions means refusing to negotiate. I do not accept conditions,” he stated, adding he considers the discussions should be based on the agreement to form the Alliance for European Integration 3.
The chairman of the PDM Marian Lupu said the Lib-Dems came to discussions with a very narrow mandate – to discuss only the appointment of an apolitical Premier and the designation of ministers by parties. “Some of our colleagues consider such a model is not possible. The PDM’s position remains very flexible. To reach a consensus, we must discuss all the possible models of forming the future Government. We called on the PLDM to ask for broader powers from the National Political Council so that we could discuss all things, one after the other, at the talks,” he stated.
